The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will give a preliminary assessment of Kazakhstan's parliamentary polls on January 16, Vice-President of the OSCE PA Wolfgang Grossruk said in Astana today.
He expressed hope for fair elections.
Sergey Mikheyev, Director General of the Center for Political Environment, told Vestnik Kavkaza that the new parliament will doubtlessly have two parties. It's unlikely that more parties will enter the parliament, as most of them are nominal and inactive. The parliament may have three parties at best. The second party would be the nominal opposition and would work as a “construction opposition”, Mikheyev believes.
