Former Soviet leader supports Yavlinsky's candidacy at Russian presidential elections

Former president of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev put his signature to the paper nominating Grigory Yavlinsky as presidential candidate, Ekho Moskvy reports.

According to Russian law, Professor Yavlinsky, founder of the opposition Yabloko party, has to collect 2 million signatures to be nominated as presidential candidate, since his party collected less than 5 per cent of the votes during the recent parliamentary elections.

The Yabloko party do not recognize the official results of the polls, saying it collected at least 7 per cent of the votes, which is enough to enter the Russian Parliament.
