US and Israel postpone biggest drills in history

The US and Israel have postponed mass military drills codenamed Austere Challenge-12, the biggest drills in the history of such bilateral maneuvers, said Captain John Kirby, Assistant Defense Secretary for public affairs, Trend reports.

He clarified that optimal involvement of all groups may be reached this year. He did not name the date for drills.

US General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will visit Israel on Thursday and discuss preparations for a strike on Iran. The Israeli Defense Ministry confirmed the information without mentioning the topic for talks, Interfax reports.

US sources say that the military are concerned with Israel preparing for a strike against Iran due to Tehran’s refusal to abandon the nuclear program.
