SCO to hold Peace Mission-2012 drills in June

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will hold joint counter-terrorism drills Peace Mission-2012 in Tajikistan in June this year, Trend reports.

SCO member states will have their troops trained for counter-terrorism operations in mountain areas. They will use new methods of detection, blocking and elimination of terrorists. This includes operations to save hostages from mountain villages.

The Organization of Peace Mission-2012 was announced in Astana in March 2011. The SCO consists of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Iran, India, Mongolia and Pakistan are observers of the organization. The first Peace Mission was organized in August 2003. Uzbekistan was not included. The first phase of training was held in Kazakhstan, the second – in China. Russia held Peace Mission-2011 in the Eastern Military District.
