Today is the last day for registration of presidential candidates in Russia, Ekho Moskvy reports.The presidential elections in Russia are going to be held on March 4th, 2012.
4 candidates supported by parliamentary parties have already been registered. They are incumbent Prime Minister and leader of the ruling United Russia party Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov, former chairman of the Federation Council and leader of the Just Russia party Sergey Mironov and former deputy speaker of the State Duma, leader of the nationalistic LDPR party Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
Other candidates had to collect 2 million signatures supporting their candidacies. Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, founder of the liberal and environmentalist Yabloko party Professor Grigory Yavlinsky and Irkutsk Region Governor Dmitry Mezentsev managed to collect the necessary number of signatures.
