US ambassador hopes Russia will support US position on Iran

Newly-appointed US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul published a short article about his first day in office on LiveJournal.com.

Ambassador McFaul said some words about his recent meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and other officials, as well as opposition politicians and activists.

The ambassador stressed the point that US needs Russia to support its positions on Iran, Syria and North Korea.

"We discussed the situation surrounding Iran, Syria and North Korea. We all agreed that bilateral coopeation is an issue of major importance," the ambassador said, referring to his meeting with Russian officials.
