Azerbaijan proposes to create a nuclear-free zone in the South Caucasus.


It was Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev who put forward this initiative at the meeting with a delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Fridon Todua, Trend cites the ministry as saying on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the ministry Azer Mensimli said that Mr Aliyev informed the Georgian delegation about Azerbaijan's concern over the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant, endangering all the region's countries.

Azerbaijan proposed that Georgia support the closure of this nuclear power plant. The proposal was supported by the Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Parliament. He added that after he returns to Tbilisi, he will inform the state bodies and the public.
