Palestine leader arrives in Russia

President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas will start his 6-day visit to Russia today, RIA Novosti reports.


Doctor Fayed Moustafa, Palestinian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Russia, said that the president will consult on issues of mutual interest, including the peace process with Russia as a member of the Middle Eastern Quartette and the UN Security Council.


Abbas will meet Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Chairman of the Emperial Orthodox Society of Palestine Sergey Stepashin and Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia Kirill on January 20.


They are expected to sign deals.


Then Abbas will visit Chuvashia and meet its leader Mikhail Ignatyev.


Mahmoud Abbas visited Russia in lte March 2011. He met the Russian president. The two leaders also met in Palestine in January 2011. They opened a museum in Jericho.
