Russian Communists urge president to fire CEC chief

Five deputies of the State Duma, members of the Communist Party, have sent a letter to President Dmitry Medvedev demanding the resignation of the Central Electoral Commission's chief Vladimir Churov, Ekho Moskvy reports.

They say the commission's decision to reject Churov's resignation was illegal. Vladimir Churov offered his resignation to members of the commission yesterday.

Currently all opposition groups are demanding Churov's immediate resignation, saying he is responsible for fraud during the December 4 parliamentary elections.
