Kazakhstan's Majilis (the lower chamber of the parliament) has changed by over 65 per cent, the head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the first joint meeting of the chambers at the opening of the new Kazakh parliament, Trend reports on Friday.
At the same time, the government of the country was reorganized. The ministry of culture has been transformed into the ministry of culture and information, the ministry of tourism and sport - into the agency for sport and physical culture, with transfer of functions and powers in tourism activities to the ministry of industry and new technology.
The Kazakh government has been instructed to ensure redistribution of the staff levels of reorganized and abolished state structures.
The new Majilis elected on January 15 expressed its confidence in the cabinet of ministers led by Prime Minister Karim Masimov.
The Prime Minister said that social security would be the aim of the government's economic policy.
