Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov as Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, RIA Novosti reports.
Bogdanov will replace Alexander Saltanov who became Vice-President for International Affairs of the Russian Railways a few months ago. Saltanov was the predecessor of Bogdanov in the Foreign Ministry.
Bogdanov was Director of the Department for the Middle East and North Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry. He became the Russian Ambassador to Egypt. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev appointed Mikhail Bogdanov as Deputy Foreign Minister in June 2011, replacing Russian Ambassador to Egypt and Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Arab League in Cairo.
