Israel has welcomed the new sanctions of the European Union against Iran, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu said at a session of the Likud Party in the parliament, Georgia Online reports.
The prime minister called for immediate pressure on Iran to halt its disputed nuclear program.
US General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited Israel last week and held negotiations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and General Staff Commander Gantz.
Jerusalem Post said that Dempsey’s visit was to prevent Israel from attacking Iranian nuclear facilities. The paper says that the US hopes Israel will be patient and wait for diplomacy and sanctions to tell on Iran.
