Davos hosts World Economic Forum 2012

Davos (Switzerland) is hosting the World Economic Forum today, with the main topic “The Great Transformation: Shaping New Models”.

Organizers of the forum say that the main issues for discussions of the forum on January 25-29 are models for growth and employment, models of leadership and innovations, models for sustainability and use of resources, social and technological models. The future of capitalism will be discussed.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will make the opening speech.

The World Economic Forum will have an exhibition of Azerbaijani culture and arts. The exhibition will be opened by the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, who will present Azerbaijani cultural and art achievements to guests. Azerbaijan will also present its cuisine.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will attend the forum. Azerbaijan and Ukraine are expected to sign a deal on formation of a joint venture for supply of liquefied gas to the LNG terminal in Ukraine, Vladislav Kaskov, head of the Ukrainian State Agency for Management of National Projects, said. He believes that deals will be signed with other participants of the market. Azerbaijan will provide 2 billion cubic meters of gas in 2014 and 5 billion in 2015.

Russia will be presented by Vice-Premier Igor Shuvalov, head of the Ministry for Economic Development Elvira Nabiullina, deputy head of the Central Bank Alexey Ulyukayev, heads of Russian companies and banks. 19 members of the G20, 2,600 politicians, businessmen, scientists, including 40 presidents and prime ministers, will attend the form.

The World Economic Forum is a non-governmental organization with about 1000 members from over 50 states, 20 of them are Russian business structures. The forum was founded and is headed by Klaus Schwab, Professor of Business Policy of the Geneva University. The forum is headquartered in Geneva.
