Iran to continue Caspian talks

Mohammed Mehdi Ahundzade, representative of the Iranian president for Caspian issues, said in Gulistan that determination of the Caspian status will be based on the principle of equality, Trend reports.

He added that Iran is preparing a document to protect its rights for the Caspian Sea.

Caspian states signed a framework convention for environmental protection of the sea in November 2003.

Kazakjstan and Russia signed an agreement on borders of the northern part of the Caspian Sea and a protocol in May 2002.

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed similar documents in Baku on November 29, 2001, and February 27, 2003, respectively.

Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on partial bordering of the Caspian Sea in 2003.
