US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates handed over a letter from President Barack Obama during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, AzerTAdzh reports.
Obama said he recalled with satisfaction that Azerbaijan was the first country he visited as a senator. Gates and Aliyev discussed military cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States, in particular, Azerbaijani assistance to NATO forces in Afghanistan. The Pentagon statement says almost 25% of all NATO supplies are delivered through the territory of Azerbaijan.
