General-Major Andrey Gurulev has been appointed as the Commander of the Combined-Arms Army of the Southern Military District (58th army located in North Ossetia) in Vladikavkaz, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.
Gurulev was the Staff Chief of the army. His predecessor Andrey Kartapolov was promoted and became Deputy Commander of the Southern Military District.
60% of the army has been reequipped, and Gurulev is to conclude the process.
Head of North Ossetia-Alani Taymuraz Mamsurov, Interior Minister of North Ossetia Artur Ahmethanov and head of the Russian FSB Directorate of Border Guards in North Ossetia Sergey Dorofeyev were at the ceremony.
Andrey Gurulev was born in Moscow in 1967. He graduated at the Moscow Higher School for Combined-Arms Army in 1988, the Academy of Combined-Arms Army of the Russian Armed Forces and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. He became Commander of the Tank Division of the Siberian Military District. Russian president promoted him to general-major in 2007. Gurulev has state awards. He is married and has 3 children.
