United States Defense Secretary Leon Panetta believes that there is a growing possibility Israel is going to attack Iran as early as April to stop Tehran from building a nuclear bomb, The Telegraph reports.
"Panetta believes there is a strong likelihood that Israel will strike Iran in April, May or June - before Iran enters what Israelis described as a 'zone of immunity' to commence building a nuclear bomb," Washington Post columnist David Ignatius wrote.
Panetta and the Pentagon both declined comment on the Post report, the Telegraph reports.
Israel is believed to possess the only nuclear arsenal in the Middle East. It views the uranium enrichment projects of Iran as a major threat and has not ruled out the use of military force to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
