Fatah and Hamas have formed a single government in Palestine, headed by Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Gazeta.ru reports.
Abbas will replace the Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, Salam Fayyad.
Fatah and Hamas signed a cease-fire agreement in Cairo on 4 May 2011, after four years of confrontation. They decided to form a single government from independent candidates and hold elections in Palestine a year later. Political prisoners are to be released from Gaza and the West Bank.
Abbas and Mashaal ratified the cease-fire agreement in Cairo on December 24. Its fulfillment was halted over differences around members of the transitional government and the release of political prisoners.
