New military institution created in Syria

The Syrian opposition has announced the creation of a new military structure - the Supreme Revolutionary Military Council, which will replace the opposition Syrian Freedom Army, RIA-Novosti reports with reference to the Egyptian portal "Al-Masri al-Yaum ". The Supreme Revolutionary Military Council has published a declaration stating that its main purpose is "to free the country from the regime of (the incumbent) Bashar al-Assad."

The Council will be headed by Brigadier General Mustafa Ahmed al-Sheikh, who is at the moment in Turkey and who is a military official of the highest rank among the officers who refused to continue their work in Syria. The official representative of the new Supreme Council will be Major Maher al-Naimi, who held the same post in the Syrian Freedom Army.
