Armenian government to wants majority system

The Armenian government does not see benefits from banning the majority system, Deputy Justice Minister Grigor Muradyan said, News Armenia reports.

Heritage and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun proposed a package of laws on January 12. They include replacement of the majority system with the 100% proportional system. Prosperous Armenia joined the initiative.

Muradyan said on Thursday that the majority system would not affect efficiency of the electoral system.

Armenia will hold parliamentary polls in May 2012. The parliament has 131 seats. 41 deputies are elected according to the majority and 90 according to the proportional system.
