Two minor submarines have joined the Iranian navy, Vzgliad reports.
Iran has started construction of the Jamaran 2 destroyers. Iran is modernizing its armed forces on the background of tensions with the West, caused by the unsettled nuclear program.
Iranian Admiral Habibolah Sayari said that Hadir submarines meet requirements of the Iranian fleet. Three Hadirs were built in November. Iran has a total of 12 submarines, including three purchased in Russia.
Jamaran 2 is a modernized version of the same vessel built at the Gulf in February 2012. The first Jamaran had its first mission on December 18, having counter-pirate raids at the Gulf of Aden. It weighs 1420 tons, part of the 16th Iranian fleet. It has a maximum speed of 30 nautical miles. Officials expect 5 more destroyers of such type to be built.
