Azerbaijan has many chances to take part in the Eurasian Union proposed by Russia, Alexey Vlasov, Editor-in-Chief of Vestnik Kavkaza, said at the News press center in Baku.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin wants to rebuilt relations between Russia and CIS states.
Vlasov said that the positions of Moscow, Baku and Astana are clear on the Caspian Sea borders. Turkmenistan is waiting for Iran to decide. US elections and the situation in Syria will determine Iran’s attitude.
Concerning Nagorno-Karabakh, Vlasov said that the last trilateral meeting in Sochi had a protocol nature. Armenia and Azerbaijan should thank Russia for efforts put into the process since 2008, when South Ossetia was recognized. The process may progress in 2-3 years.
The political analyst reminded about the criminalization of denial of the Armenian Genocide in France. France can no longer be an impartial side in the conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group. Turkey would not be allowed to join the process. No progress should be expected in 2012-2013.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin may stimulate the process after the presidential polls on March 4, 2012. Armenia will have elections in 2013. Elections in Azerbaijan and Armenia are an important psychological date. The same concerns Georgia. The main question is whether Mikheil Saakashvili remains president.
