Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Zhai Jun and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad meet in Damascus

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Zhai Jun, who is also the special envoy of the Chinese government, arrived in Damascus this morning, the agency "Xinhua" says.

Syrian President Bashar Assad met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of China and the special envoy of the Chinese Government Zhai Jun on Saturday.

During the meeting the sides discussed the situation in Syria.

"China urges the government and armed opposition to immediately stop the acts of violence," Zhai Jun said after a meeting in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, according to RIA Novosti.

The deputy head of China's Foreign Ministry earlier mentioned that Beijing opposes military intervention in Syria and realization of the scenario of power change of the political regime.
