The President of Georgia visited Georgian military troops in
Afghanistan, Trend reports, referring to the TV station "Rustavi 2". It
reported that Mikheil Saakashvili visited the Georgian military base
"Shukvani" in Helmand Province, where 700 soldiers commanded by the United
States are located.
Saakashvili stressed that the deployment of the Georgian military in
Afghanistan has "big goals".
He said that his country is contributing to the overall safety through
partnerships with NATO.
Saakashvili had been in Afghanistan for two hours. During this time,
Georgian troops conducted an operation to neutralize a Taliban group.
There are also 177 Georgian soldiers serving in the area of responsibility
of France in Kabul.
Starting from autumn 2012 the contingent of Georgian troops will be increased to 1700 soldiers.
