Russia cannot attend the Friends of Syria Group in Tunisia, spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich said on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports.
Tunisia initiated the first international conference of the Friends of Syria Group as part of the extreme council of the Arab League last week. Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalyam expected Russia to attend the meeting earlier.
Lukashevich commented, saying that neither the attendants, nor the topic for talks have been clarified. Neither is the real goal of the initiative clear. According to information received, independent opposition groups and Syrian state officials were invited. The final document is a matter of question as well. A group of states has reportedly started working on the document. With account of all the circumstances, Russia cannot take part in the meeting, Likashevich concluded.
