Foreign Affairs Minister Adnan Mansour said on Tuesday that Lebanon would not attend the “Friends of Syria” conference due to be held in Tunisia on Friday, Lebanese newspaper The Daily Star reports.
"In compliance with the country's disassociation policy, Lebanon will not participate in the conference in Tunisia,” Mansour told the OTV channel.
The Friends of Syria conference came into existence due to the failure of the UN to approve a Western and Arab-backed resolution calling on President Bashar Assad to hand over power. The resolution was vetoed by Russia and China.
Both Moscow and Beijing announced on Tuesday they would not take part in the conference that will be held in Tunisia on February 24.
