Abkhaz president Alexander Ankvab said in a telephone conversation that he was not injured in the assassination attempt, Interfax reports.
One of his bodyguards died and two were hospitalized with grave wounds.
Abkhaz police said that the attack happened at the Gudaut District at 8.25 am. A controlled landmine blew up next to his escorting vehicle.
The president is currently at work in Sukhumi, State Security Service Chief Anri Bogua said. He noted that a bodyguard died and one is in grave condition.
