Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has made a speech at an Iranian exhibition in Ashkhabad, noting great economic potential of Iran, Trend reports.
Iran and Turkmenistan realized construction of the Dostluk Water reservoir, the Korpeje-Gurtguyi and Dovletabat-Serahs-Khangeran gas pipelines and the Tejen-Serahs-Mashhad railway.
The two states are realizing the North-South railway project, with assistance of Kazakhstan. The Asian and Islamic Development Banks are financing it.
Iran plans to increase purchases of electricity from Turkmenistan.
Berdimuhamedov expressed interest in activating trade-economic ties, development of a common approach to cooperation, basing on trust and mutual benefit. The two states have potential for development of agriculture, textile industry, construction and industry of construction materials, energy and chemical spheres, tourism and other aspects.
Turkmenistan and Iran have recently marked the 20th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. Over 180 interstate agreements were signed by the two states within this period.
