Medvedev offers Abkhazia assistance in finding assassins

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has had a telephone conversation with his Abkhaz counterpart Alexander Ankvab this morning and offered assistance in investigating the assassination attempt against the leader of the South Caucasus republic, RIA Novosti reports.

Ankvabs convoy was shot from a grenade launcher and a machine gun on the Gudaut-Sukhumi road. A bodyguard died and three were wounded. Abkhazian law enforcers were mobilized to intercept the assailants.
