The Russian Federal Migration Service proposed a ban for illegal migrants for 5 years, RIA Novosti reports.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in January that grave violators of migration laws should be banned for 5-10 years. The current ban lasts 2 years.
Romodanovsky said at the Federation Council that foreigners should undergo more severe punishments. About 3.5 million foreigners are working in Russia illegally.
Romodanovsky noted that Russia has 9.5 million foreigners, 1.3 million of them work legally, 3.8 million arrived on a visit, for studies of treatment, 4.4 million are among a risk group. About 3.5 million foreigners have stayed in Russia for over 3 months and work illegally.
