Water resources are being wasted all over the world, Iranian President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said at the Water for Life international
conference in Tajikistan's capital of Dushanbe, Asia-Plus reports.
He noted that the use of water has doubled, especially in rich countries.
"People must understand the importance of water and its role in their
lives. The agriculture of many countries suffers from water shortages.
As for energy, Iran urges the use of alternative energy sources aside
from water resources. These are wind, solar and nuclear energy," the
Iranian leader said, adding that the majority of problems occur as a
result of greenhouse gas emissions produced by developed countries.
"These countries do not want to invest in other energy sources even
though they have all the funds and technology to help reduce
greenhouse gas emissions," he said.
"Iran has made a big step in the use and consumption of clear water
and created cheap technology for the use and processing of water
resources which is based on nanotechnology and is ready to offer this
technology to other countries," Ahmadinejad said.
