Servicemen of the 4th Russian military base in South Ossetia are voting early in presidential polls in the Kanchaveti Village of the Leningorsky District. Over 200 servicemen will give votes, Deputy Commander of the base Colonel Sergey Maksimov says, RIA Novosti reports.
Up to 400 border guards in Gubir, Artsev, Grome and other villages will vote. The process will continue until February 28.
Ballot boxes will be sent after conclusion of elections at 8 pm on March 4.
Over 13,000 people in South Ossetia voted at 5 polling stations during parliamentary polls in December. There will be 12 polling stations during the presidential polls of March 4.
Russia holds early presidential polls on February 17 – March 3 for the population of distant areas, crews of ships and foreign states.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of United Russia, Vladimir Zhirinovski of LDPR, Sergey Mironov of Fair Russia, Gennady Zyuganov of CPRF and businessman Mikhail Prokhorov are candidates for president.
28,671 people have already voted, the Russian CEC says.
Most early votes were held in the Krasnodar Region (3,477), Irkutsk Region (3,952), Khanty-Mansiysk (3,679) and Yamalo-Nenetsk (11,465) Autonomous Districts.
