A nationwide march marking the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre was held in Baku on Sunday. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev took part in the march.
The Azerbaijani authorities claim that Armenian military forces committed acts of genocide in the town of Khojaly, Azerbaijan, with a population of 7,000 people, on 26 February 1992. There were 3,000 people in the town at the time of the Armenian military forces' attack.
Most of the population had to leave the town during a four-month blockade. 613 people were killed, 1,000 peaceful people of different ages were made disabled during the Khojaly genocide. 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly men were killed. 8 families were completely annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, while 25 lost both of them. 1,275 peaceful residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 of them is still unknown.
