Policeman wounded in protest crackdown on Makhachkala-Astrakhan highway

A policeman was shot in the leg on Wednesday in an operation to crack
down on protestors trying to blockade the Makhachkala-Astrakhan
federal highway in Dagestan, RIA Novosti reports, citing the
press-service of the Dagestani Interior Ministry.


According to the ministry, approximately 300 people blocked the
highway in the Kizlyar region of Dagestan at 12.00 Moscow time,
demanding the authorities find a lost resident of the village of
Chernyayevka, Akhmednabi Najmutdinov.


The protestors said that Najmutdinov went missing on May 30th. The
protestors did not respond to the authorities’ demand to leave. The
crackdown operation started at 14.30. The protestors shot a Kizlyar
policeman. 14 people were arrested.
