Putin’s would-be assassins were part of Doku Umarov’s group

Militants caught in Ukraine planning to assassinate Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin were part of international terrorist Doku Umarov’s group, RIA Novosti reports.

The militants were caught in Odessa. They planned to kill the prime minister after the presidential polls of March 4. Their names are Odam Osmayev, his father Aslanbek, Ilia Pyanzin and Ruslan Madayev, who died in a blast in Odessa. They were on the Chechen wanted list.

The assailants moved from Chechnya some years ago and were acting as Umarov’s emissaries.

Information on their detention was published in early February. The Alpha Special Group detained two militants suspected of organizing a terrorist attack.

The Main Directorate of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry in the Odessa Region initiated a criminal case for murder in an explosion on 24 Tiraspolskaya Street in early January, which resulted in the death of a 26-year old Russian and injuries to a 28-year old Kazakh citizen. Adam Osmayev, a third person caught in the blast, escaped the scene.
