The CEC has registered the Ambassador of Russia to South Ossetia, Dmitry Medoyev as candidate in the election of the head of the state. Two applicants, were refused in registration, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the statement made by the chairman of the CEC, Bella Plieva.
The re-election of the president of South Ossetia will be held on March 25 based on the decision of Parliament. The results of the last elections which took place on November 27, 2011 were recognized as invalid by the Supreme Court of South Ossetia.
Out of 22 contenders for the presidency the CEC of South Ossetia has registered only three candidates until now. Two more candidates are waiting for the decision. One of them, the leader of the republican Communist party, Stanislav Kochiyev will have to pass a language exam. Three people have refused to run for presidency. The remaining 13 applicants were refused in registration.
The CEC will publish the final list of registered candidates eligible to participate in the presidential election on February 29.
