Putin does not need risky steps to win in first round – Sergey Mikheyev

Terrorist acts are still a threat in the light of the upcoming presidential polls, Yuri Demidov, head of the Main Directorate for Public Order and Coordination of Cooperation with Executive Authorities of Regions of the Federation of the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation, said at a meeting with Russian CEC head and authorities of regional electoral commissions.

A terrorist attack against Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has recently been prevented. Suspected terrorists were caught in Ukraine in early February. They planned an assassination of Putin after the presidential polls on March 4.

Vladimir Mikheyev, Director General of the Center for Political Conjuncture, told Vestnik Kavkaza that he was surprised with people claiming that the incident was a PR move of the prime minister. Stage conspiracy between Russia and Ukraine, Putin and Yanukovich, when relations between them are cold, is doubtful, the expert says.

Regarding the time of publication of the information, according to Sergey Mikheyev, is not extraordinary. If there are facts, they should not be published immediately. Putin does not need risky steps to win the elections in the first round. It would be strange to view it as a means of improving the rating, Mikheyev concludes.
