Russia prevents foreign intervention in Syria

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen confirmed that the Alliance does not plan intervention in Syria. He warned against comparing the situation in Syria and Libya, where NATO bombed government forces, RIA Novosti reports.

The UN Security Council is working on a resolution to stop violence in the state and give humanitarian access to the population, French diplomatic spokesman Bernard Valero said. He hopes that Russia and China would not veto the initiative.

Sergey Mikheyev, Director General of the Center for Political Conjuncture, said that Bashar Assad is in control of the situation, except in Homs.

Vladimir Yevseyev, Director of the Center for Socio-Political Studies, said that Russia supports the Syrian president and influenced Turkey.

Concerning Iran, yevseyev noted the recent meeting of Russian and Iranian Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Iran is helping in economics, Iran sent two warships to the Syrian port of Tartus. Iran is preventing part of Iraqi weapon exports to Syrian opposition.

Russia may send its warships to Tartus if needed. Yevseyev believes that information war in the Gulf will expand. It will target the parliamentary polls.
