EEC considers Kyrgyz membership request

The Eurasian Economic Commission has formed a working group to consider Kyrgyz membership in the Customs Union, EEC Minister for trade Andrey Slepnev said, RIA Novosti reports.

The Customs Union was formed within the framework of the EurAsEC and Kyrgyzstan is involved. It joined the Customs Union in October 2011. Kyrgyz Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov said on October 18, 2011, that Russian media were talking about membership in the Customs Union early.

Joining the economic alliance may leave thousands of Kyrgyz citizens at the Dordoy and Kara-Suu markets, largest in Middle Asia, workless.
