Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Arab League will discuss the situation in Syria at a meeting in Cairo on March 10, the Russian minister said after a meeting with his Jordan’s counterpart Naser Jaud, ITAR-TASS reports.
The Arab League proposed an initiative to stop violence in Syria in November 2011, disapproved by Russia. But it became the basis of the Russian resolution on Syria proposed at the UN Security Council in late 2012.
Lavrov said that they receive information on weapons and armed groups entering Syria from other states. Some Syrian opposition members spoke for continuation of the fight. The Syrian government and opposition should both stop the clashes, the Russian minister emphasizes.
