Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Constantine Kosachyov as special representative for contacts with the CIS and the Russian Federal Agency for Cooperation with the CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and the International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), ITAR-TASS reports.
Rossotrudnichestvo was established in September 2008. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Farit Mukhametshin became its first chief.
The agency was under supervision of the Russian Foreign Ministry and was functioning through its offices or representatives in Russian diplomatic missions in 74 states of the world. It has 83 subdivisions, including 58 Russian centers for science and culture.
Rossotrudnichestvo and its foreign offices are promoting an impartial image of modern Russia, its material and cultural potential, domestic and foreign course. International humanitarian cooperation, support of the Russian language and compatriots living abroad are the special activities of the agency.
