Women politicians could improve the authority and prestige of the Russian parliament, Parliamentary Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said, RIA Novosti reports.
The official said that 7 out of every 10 functionaries are females, while only 14% of MPs are women. City councils have even fewer female members - about 12%.
Naryshkin said that females are more diplomatic, polite and industrious by nature. They have a natural strive for compromise, an essential feature for parliamentary activity.
The meeting on Tuesday had the first 7 female members of legislative assemblies present, besides female MPs.
