Sukhumi has denied the assassination scheme against Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab depicted at the Infographics section of ITAR-TASS, the State Information Agency of Abkhazia reports.
The agency said that the main attack was made with use of a bomb under the armored vehicle of the president at the Druzhba Village of the Gudaut-Sukhumi Highway. Bodyguard chief Akhre Geria passed the vehicle in front of him and moved 100 meters away from the blast. The third vehicle with security officers inside stopped. The officers opened fire and were shot at from a grenade launcher and a machine gun.
Remzik Tsugba, an officer of the State Security Service, died at the spot. Tengiz Pandaria, another bodyguard, died at a hospital. Nodar Silagava, the third bodyguard, was injured in the leg.
