Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili gave a speech at the Azerbaijani parliament in Baku today. He called Azerbaijan and Georgia strategic partners, Trend reports.
The president noted that the two states have common historic problems. Azerbaijan announced its independence in Tiflis. Saakashvili said that Azerbaijan has become a major player on the international arena. Strategic partnership is vital for both states.
Saakashvili reminded about Mamed Emin Rasulzade’s saying that repressions failed to kill the liberty spirit of the two states. Attempts to rebuild the Soviet Union in 2012 are destined to fail, he believes. The president expressed hope for a strong Russia.
The Georgian president praised Azerbaijani National Leader Ilham Aliyev for enforcing the alliance with Georgia and common grounds between the two states.
