Azerbaijani MP demands Gorbachev be deprived of Nobel Prize

Azerbaijani MP Etibar Guseynov has requested Thorbjorn Jagland, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Dag Terje Anderson, Chairman of the Norwegian parliament, Swedish King Carl XVI Gustav and Norwegian King Harold V to deprive former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev of the Nobel Prize, Trend reports.

The Azerbaijani official reminded that Gorbachev ordered military troops to enter Baku on January 20, 1990, to stop a peaceful meeting. It resulted in 131 civilians killed, 744 injured, 328 becoming handicapped and 841 illegally arrested.

Guseynov said that Gorbachev is responsible for crimes committed by Soviet troops. This includes a shootout in the Kazakh capital on December 17-18, 1986, in the Georgia capital on April 9, 1989, in the Azerbaijani capital on January 20, 1990, in the Tajik capital in January 1990, in the Lithuanian capital on January 13, 1991, in the Latvian capital on January 20, 1991.

The Azerbaijani MP demanded criminal punishment for Gorbachev.
