The co-chairs of the Geneva Talks on Georgia – Philippe Lefort (EU), Antti Turunen (UN) and Padrig Murphy (OSCE) – met today with Russian political analyst in Moscow. Editor-in-Chief of the Vestnik Kavkaza news agency Dr. Alexey Vlasov took part in the meeting.
The parties exchanged their views on the current situation surrounding the South Ossetian and Abkhazian conflicts and future prospects.
The meeting was held in the run-up to a new round of multilateral talks between Russia, Georgia, the semi-recognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and international mediators.
According to Dr. Vlasov, no developments in the conflict are expected this year. The situation is likely to change only after the 2013 presidential elections in Georgia, the expert believes.
