Stanislav Kochiyev, First Secretary of the Communist Party and candidate for president of South Ossetia, has warned about the risk of a coup.
The official said that he has information on Prosecutor General Taymuraz Khugayev’s lobbying a switch of the constitutional system from presidential to parliamentary form of power.
Kochiyev insists that such initiative during pre-electoral campaign is a coup attempt. Such attempt was seen before the previous elections, but was prevented. If changes of the constitutional system receive enough votes, Chairman of Parliament Eduard Kokoity would become the country’s leader instead of the president on March 25.
Kochiyev predicts catastrophic repercussions for South Ossetia, should the scenario be realized.
