Turkey proposes resolution to gas dispute using Azerbaijani approach

Turkey has proposed Iran to resolve an ongoing gas dispute using the Azerbaijani approach, Turkish Minister for Energy Taner Yildiz said at the international energy forum in Kuwait, 1news.az reports.

Taner Yildiz said that they may have to file a lawsuit against Iran, unless it makes concessions. He said earlier that Iranian gas exceeds the market price. Turkey plans to file a lawsuit to the International Arbitrary Court after March 16.

Iran and Turkey signed a gas deal in 1996. Iran is to provide Turkey with 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually (30 million daily). Botas, Turkish state pipeline company, said that Turkey imported 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas in 2011. Russia is the main gas exporter to Turkey, followed by Iran and Azerbaijan.
