Legislators of Krasnodar Territory will meet at their 59th session on March 21 to decide whether Alexander Tkachyov should remain Governor, RIA Novosti reports.
Tkachyov was recommended for the position by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on March 11. He has been governing the region, which will host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, for over 11 years. Tkachyov was elected on December 3, 2000, and re-elected in March 2004. He set a vote of confidence in April 2011. His candidature as governor was approved in April 2007. The latest terms expire in April 2012.
Tkachyov approved Medvedev’s decision to start direct gubernatorial elections in December 2011. According to the bill introduced to the parliament in January, governors are to be elected for 5 years. Governors are proposed by political parties.
