Former Kazakh Healthcare Minister Zhaksylyk Doskaliyev, sentenced to 7 years of prison in 2011 for corruption, has been released, News Kazakhstan cites Aylan Auaririn, press secretary of the Astana Inter-District Crime Court, as saying.
Doskaliyev was jailed in August 2011 for corruption and sentenced to 7 years in a maximum security penal colony. He did not admit his guilt. The criminal case was initiated in September 2010.
Doskaliyev worked as the head of the Medical Academy. The investigation says he signed an illegal contract on construction of residential houses at the academy’s land. Apartments of the houses were sold to individuals not working for the academy. The financial police say that Doskaliyev received some of the future apartments free for striking the deal.
Doskaliyev is a well-known surgeon in Kazakhstan, he had organized surgeries even when working as minister. The former minister suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage and is partly paralyzed.
